JOB DESCRIPTION
Senior Systems Engineer supporting the developmental testing of software for the Military Health System (MHS).  Hands-on design engineer who will provide technical leadership in operations, testing and integration for the MHS. Beginning with the planning and design stages, this person will identify system requirements for operations and testing (technical and functional), and work with other MHS developers, testers, and community participants to develop designs, integrate components, and lead technical and functional test and support projects. Using a practical background in software development and testing, this person will help establish efficient technical reviews and support processes, including tools and environments that can be widely deployed to MHS engineering participants. This person must be able to work in a team environment, especially in “day-to-day” interaction with the MHS Test Director (TD), Project Director (PD), Operations Director (OD), and other MHS lead engineers to develop solutions that meet requirements and optimize for system and environment flexibility. A familiarity with AHLTA (Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application, formerly known as CHCS II) is a plus, but not required. The majority of this work will be conducted in Falls Church, VA, at the Skyline Office Complex, but there may be some intermittent travel. The area of initial focus for technical testing is CITPO (Clinical Information Technology Program Office), and its systems include AHLTA, the Composite Health Care System, the Federal Health Information Exchange, the Laboratory Data Sharing initiative, and the Clinical Data Repository/Health Data Repository. Together, these systems will provide a cohesive family of systems supporting the provision of **patient-centric** care, facilitating the delivery of optimal and seamless health care to MHS beneficiaries, including service members who are transferring from the MHS to Veterans Health Administration care.

REQUIRED SKILLS
Expertise and understanding of Systems Engineering, Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), Web Services, Agile Development and Testing, Unix, SQL, Test Director/Quality Center, and Mercury QuickTestPro/WinRunner.

DESIRED SKILLS
Experience and understanding of the software acquisition process, test and evaluation, systems and Software Engineering, systems analysis, related discipline, and/or military/DoD civilian experience.

Working knowledge of operating practices and relationships among DoD medical commands and program offices. Strong organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills, the ability to review work products of junior testers and engineers, and the ability to provide guidance to junior testers and developers, as the technical testing area is envisioned to grow to encompass an automated test cell.
Excellent command of MS Word and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with T and V&V process documentation
Strong familiarity with Software Engineering and Testing best practices such as ISO 12207, Capability Maturity Model Integration, Agile Testing, Net-Centric Testing, etc.
Familiarity or expertise in the Military Health System (MHS)
